Tips for gathering evidence to demonstrate your skills

The important thing to remember when gathering evidence is that the more evidence the better - that is, the more evidence you gather to demonstrate your skills, the more confident an assessor can be that you have learned the skills not just at one point in time, but are continuing to apply and develop those skills (as opposed to just learning for the test!). Furthermore, one piece of evidence that you collect will not usualy demonstrate all the required criteria for a unit of competency, whereas multiple overlapping pieces of evidence will usually do the trick!

The Evidence Guide provides advice on assessment and must be read in conjunction with the performance criteria, required skills and knowledge, range statement and the Assessment Guidelines for the Training Package.

Critical aspects for assessment and evidence required to demonstrate competency in this unit

The following evidence is critical to the judgement of competence in this unit:

operational knowledge of a range of cinema projection equipment and ability to perform a range of routine maintenance tasks to ensure proper operation

ability to read and understand service manuals, where they relate to maintenance requirements

knowledge of occupational health and safety principles and procedures.

Context of and specific resources for assessment

The assessment context must provide for:

practical demonstration of skills within a fully equipped projection room or environment where maintenance tasks are undertaken on different types of projection equipment

observation of a variety of maintenance activities, including work on projector, sound, and film transport equipment

completion of maintenance tasks within typical workplace time constraints.

Method of assessment

Assessment may incorporate a range of methods to assess practical skills and the application of essential underpinning knowledge, and might include:

direct observation of maintenance tasks conducted by the candidate

project activities that allow completion and reporting on a range of maintenance activities

review of maintenance schedules and repair reports prepared by the candidate

written or oral questioning to test knowledge of typical projection equipment and occupational health and safety issues and regulations

review of portfolios of evidence and third party workplace reports of on-the job performance by the candidate.
